Yet another study has warned that men who suffer from erectile dysfunction could be suffering from heart disease. Dr. Michael Bohm from the German University of Saarland explained that erectile problems were often an early symptom of atherosclerosis and should be dealt with sooner rather than later.
The study also noted that men who suffer from heart disease and who also suffer from erectile dysfunction die before men who do not get treatment for the impotence problem. Dr. Bohm and his team of researchers concluded that men with both medical conditions doubled their chances of dying from any reason and were also twice as likely to experience a heart attack when compared to men who suffered from heart disease alone.
In all over 1,500 men in thirteen different countries were questioned about their erectile function and it was noted that over the two year period of the research project 11.3% of those men who suffered from erectile dysfunction patients died compared to only 5.6% of those men with mild or no erectile problems. There is a concern that by using erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra men could be hiding the symptoms which are a marker for diagnosis of heart and arterial disease. Any man suffering from erectile dysfunction should always go and get his heart checked out just to be on the safe side.
It can be that erectile dysfunction is just a natural sign of aging and doesn't necessarily mean that you have some chronic underlying health condition but it is always a good idea to get a clean bill of health and put your mind at rest rather than using impotence medication to compensate and cover up for bad health which is likely to have been caused by unhealthy living.
The study which was published in the medical journal Circulation was presented to a gathering of the American College of Cardiology.
